I suppose it's an anti-piracy measure, but it seems like it's causing more confusion than good.

Specially because you cannot buy the regular version at any stores - so people who want a boxed version either pay U$280 (I kid you not) for the collector's edition or... get the cheapo, limited edition.

I don't know about you but to me it feels like renting, rather than buying.

Totally, and I don't think it's that healthy =/

Err can't you still get the unlimited version online from Blizzard for like $60?

Yes, you can. That solves the problem. I'm mostly pet peeving now. I expect a large amount of people to buy it since not everyone here knows StarCraft II and the only version on stores is the cheapo limited one.

Best match I watched from Beta

TLI EU TheLittleOne vs Nazgul 2010-03-27 @ Metalopolispowered by Aeva

Watching this match made me realize the new depth that Blizzard went to when they designed Starcraft 2; it made me want to be a better player, not just someone who is "decent" but someone who could melt faces.

I also like how you can watch any match that you were in and see where the weakness in your strategy came from, and then learn from that mistake. Pretty sexy.  Grin

TLO is my hero. He tore up the beta with some seriously creative play.

That's a damn fine ad for the game too, heh... I was going to hold off on principle, but now I'm tempted again.

What has TLO done since?  Still tearing it up?

Merged this topic with other Starcraft 2 topic, keeps things in one place.  Wink

I finished the campaign last night. I have to say it was one of the most interesting and compelling stories I've seen in an RTS plus the fact that you have your own little base where you can upgrade your units or play minigames was awesome. Absolutely the best RTS campaign I've ever played and the multiplayer, though I suck horribly, is incredibly well designed. I think I'd have to say it's the best RTS ever.

I just played the weirdest round of SC ever.

I'm playing protoss vs terran and I'm gearing up for a 4 gate rush.  I just sent a probe over to investigate the guy's base and all of a sudden I see a command center floating over my base.  I'm like, "wtf?  is this guy trying to get to his base to an air accessible only location, or is he going for rich minerals, or what?"  Then I realize that none of that stuff is near me and he would have to be going far out of his way to end up crossing me.  Then it dawns on me, this guy is going to land his command center in my base, build a cannon on top and go to town.

Sure enough that's what he does.  He builds it close enough that it can attack my nexus and a couple other buildings.  Now at this point I have a sole stalker as my base defense, obviously no match for a command center with a giant cannon on top.  Fortunately his CC is out of range of my harvesters so they are safe, but he is trying to mine my minerals with his SCVs.  I put an end to that really quick.  Fortunately I have a bit of mineral surplus and he's been taking a little while to kill my nexus, so I build another nexus on the opposite side of the minerals, build several gateways outside of the range of his CC, build a moderately sized army and wipe him out.  1st placement match = win  Grin

Quoted for truthiness. I couldn't have said it better myself.

He's done some showmatches, played in a ton of tournaments, and recently flew out to live in South Korean to train with oGs, a korean sc2 team.

Also, this weekend sc2 is being played at MLG Raleigh. I definitely recommend checking out some of the games because there are some seriously sick players in the tournament.

I'm kinda amazed that it is a legitimate strategy.  It seemed really ineffective and easy to counter.

It's not a legitimate strategy really, its more of an all-in cheese type thing.

From the sounds of it, your opponent f'ed it up.  The fortress should be in range of your mineral line and nexus, and should be spamming marines from a proxy as well.  The SCVs should be repairing the CC.

It works pretty well if you don't scout it or if you haven't seen it before.  Good job defeating it.

I would like to note the "Base" in the SC2 campaign is bloody well stolen from the Freespace series.

Puh-lease. Starcraft and competitive games are all about cheese. Does the game mechanics allow it? Yes. Therefore, it is legitimate.
Quite a funny strategy, at that Tongue

Yeah, you're right.  He didn't even bring a barracks over.  Though still, with quick thinking one could still block all effective landing sites with well placed pylons.  I think the fact that my base sprawled a bit helped me.  I already had structures in inconvenient places for him, and at that point he was already committed.
